The Cornerstone Project
Public education is the cornerstone of American democracy, but our education elections do not represent the communities they serve—off-year elections for school boards result in low voter turnout; students are left out of voting and decision-making; plurality victories allow extreme viewpoints to dominate; dark money’s influence is unchecked; and there is a lack of legal rights to quality education.Seek Common Ground, along with the Open Systems Institute and Education Civil Rights Now, co-founded the Cornerstone Project to strengthen education redesign and build a democracy network to reduce polarization, build a more just system, and unleash the potential for every learner to thrive.
To start, the Cornerstone project has hosted a Learning Series (watch recordings here) and conducted an analysis of the education democracy landscape (learn more here).
