• Organizational Background: A coalition of community members across Montgomery County, MD, led by local advocacy groups, Identity and the NAACP, the BBCEEE studies, advocates for, and organizes around education policies and practices with the goal for all students, and particularly Black and Brown students, to have equitable access to the resources, opportunities, and supports they need to be successful in college, career, and life. Through SCG’s Community-led COVID-19 Recovery Action Accelerator in 2020, the BBCEEE piloted Equity Hubs—remote learning centers for students—based on a county-wide survey they conducted with Black, Brown, low-income, and immigrant families.

  • Project: The Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence partnered with University of Maryland College of Education professor, Dr. Sophia Rodriguez, to conduct interviews with underserved Black, Brown, low-income, and immigrant families with students in Montgomery County, MD Public Schools to learn more about their COVID-19 recovery needs and explore the barriers that have prevented them from participating in critical school- and district-level decision making, particularly the allocation of federal education relief funds.
