  • Organization Background: Since 2008, Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio has served over 21,000 children through Dancing Classrooms, building social awareness, confidence, and self-esteem through the medium of social dance.

  • Project: DCNEO fostered connection after a year of isolation during COVID-19 using modified jump ropes as “connectors” to safely teach fifth graders ballroom dance. DCNEO’s program, “Connecting with Care,” engaged youth and their caregivers to connect the movement of dance to larger social-development and educational goals.

Passport to Academic Success
Passport to Academic Success

The Dancing Classrooms journey includes a new and improved curriculum component. Each student receives and completes their very own “Passport” that enriches their experience with written reflections, creative writing, and an expanded history and culture of the countries we dance through. All assignments are connected to the Ohio Academic Content and Common Core standards in English, Language Arts, Fine Arts, and Physical Education.

Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio (DCNEO) is a nonprofit that “uses ballroom dancing as a vehicle to change the lives of not only the children who participate in the program but also the lives of the teachers and parents who support these children” and a SCG Whole Child Action Accelerator participant. DCNEO has recently completed their “Connecting with Care” pilot program in East Cleveland where jump ropes were used as “connectors” to safely teach ballroom dance to fifth grade students.
